It seems to me that this is what Strava is going to say is impractical or impossible, the business model change that could mitigate these types of lawsuits. But what if they did it instead? Wouldn't Strava come out smelling like a rose while adding value to the site for the people who aren't chasing records? It seems like an opportunity for clever cyclist/programmers.
What about the cyclists that are analogous to the skiers that seek out double black diamonds? The suit essentially contends that Strava is challenging cyclists to do stuff that's not safe - if you're following that line of thought, I think that your suggestion would be seen as goading them even further.
