There's some irony here... as we move to lighter drive trains and narrower chains, 10spd and 11spd indexed rear, they drive train wears faster and riders do need to change chain and chains more often - at greater expense. Maybe not ironic for the manufacturers who sell more product at higher margin. But I've been noticing -fewer- problems with thinner, cheaper cranks with -steel- chain rings. Not light by any means. But they hold up great, take abuse, and handle the narrow shifting, it seems, with less trouble.
