Well it was yesterday not today, but riding out to the park to play some ultimate frisbee, going about 22mph I had a car shoot in front of me and take a sudden right turn. There was no time at all to stop so I tried to turn with the car, kind of checking it with my side and bouncing off (I've done it a few times successfully, although at lesser speeds) and I ended up ripping off their side mirror with my arm before going chin first into the ground. I got up knowing I had a few scrapes but excepting a round of sorries and riding the rest of the way out to the field. Instead I looked down to find my front rim destroyed. Everything else seems fine, although I'm taking the carbon fork into a bike shop tomorrow to make sure. Went to the doc today and he said I should have come in to get stitches on my chin but it was too late now, other than that I'm fortunate to only have minor scrapes.
I feel pretty bad for the driver, some 15 year old girl on her permit who might not be able to get her license for a while now. If it's just the front rim that is destroyed and the fork is okay I'll keep it out of insurance and off her record, ask for minimal money from them to replace it and the spokes. But let me tell you if insurance is paying for it, I'm going to milk that for everything I can
