Are you just cutting back temporarily until you know for sure that you are lactose intolerant? (i.e. no dairy at all for a while until symptoms disappear, then start dairy again and see what happens). If you're doing this, I would suggest cutting out dairy 100% temporarily, so there is no ambiguity to the procedure.

If you're sure you're lactose intolerant, just buy some lactase enzyme pills for when you want dairy. Why suffer without something you like to eat, or suffer the unpleasant symptoms of eating it without taking the lactase? I highly recommend Kirkland (Costco house brand) Lactase Fast Act tablets. They work the best of anything I have tried.
