Someone here years ago mentioned that a PBJ sandwich is pretty much exactly the same thing as the fancy recovery bars that they sell; carbs, protein and fruit sugars. Bonus is that they cost a few cents and they're yummy. I've used them quite a bit as post ride breakfast since then.
When backpacking and I'm about to make a serious push I sit, eat one simple Natures Valley honey and oats granola bar and 15 minutes later I can pull like a herd of D9 Cats.....for about 45 minutes.
