I wonder how much time and money the car owner expended to file the lawsuit? That was probably way more than $100. People pursue matters on the principal of the thing, but this lawsuit strikes me as a stupid waste of resources.

I don't know about Florida, but in Massachusetts the driving laws generally extend to private ways. I wonder how she would feel if someone was caught (or worse, hurt somebody) drunk driving within her gated community. Would she be ok with it if the police just let the perpetrator go because the law doesn't apply to a private way?
