Now that you have said it, I will jump it. Cross chaining was never an issues for me. Up until now, I only use the biggest cogs on the cassette with the smallest chain ring and the middle chain ring. I use the smallest cogs on the cassette with the big chain ring and the middle chain ring. I am told that with a compact, it is not an issue.
