Oh well, at least this gave us a complete doctoral dissertation on the exact value of Raleigh Competition G.S.'s, as disagreed upon by everyone here.

Yup, this is quite a thread to have a missed OP!!
Well, the back and forth started on the worth of a 78-79 Raleigh Competition GS. I sold one on Ebay for $550 + $100 shipping. The buyer is a bike shop owner and tickled pink with his purchase. However, in noting that to the OP who is trying to gauge a good price to pay for a 78-79 Raleigh Competition GS, a poster told him what HE THOUGHT the Raleigh is worth, and that was supposed to be Gospel. However, others begged to differ!!
In additon, the same poster stated that the Raleigh Competition GS is THIRD TIER to the International. In doing my research, and I admit, I am a layman, the Competition has NEVER been 3rd tier to the International. When the International was being produced, the Competition was NEXT in line. When the International stopped being produced, it was next in line to the Professional.
Other than that, this has been a fun thread!!
