Don't worry about it, the fault was mine. I should have acknowledged that your explanation was cogent rather than just focussing on the fact that the kcal calculation had already been taken into account by the other poster.

Anyway, the bottom line is that most cyclists are going to be burning something in excess of 30kcal per mile, maybe over 40kcal if they're very heavy. This is often regarded as a disappointing figure by those who rely on heartrate monitors for estimates of Calorie consumption. A Garmin 305 I used to have regularly told me I was burning over 1000kcal per hour, and I've simply never been that fast! These days I just guess at about 20kcal per kilometre, it seems to work out OK.
