If you need a full-capability computer personally I would go for a MacBook Air. Otherwise, a tablet like the iPad is all you need on a tour which can be obtained for as little as $400.
This year's MBA is a significant improvement over last year's model. I would jump on that. It was released like 2 weeks ago, I think. The iPad while cool for app games....well, exactly, it's an oversized app toy and I couldn't imagine typing on it with any sort of efficiency. I would say go for the MBA, get the extended warranty and be set for years.
