It seemed that he basically went off the grid for awhile. I am not local to SoCal so I could not just go and see him and get it back. About a year later he contacted me with an apology and a lame explanation and said he would return the frame to me right away. That was the last time he contacted me and I have never received the frame. I finally gave up some months later and considered it a $400 lesson (plus shipping). Since then I have sent Joe Bell a frame and have been very pleased with the work I received from him as well as his communication. If you are trying to save money then go ahead and send your frame to the lowest bidder, but if you want to be certain of a good result you should look at the reputation of the shop. Brian Bayliss get 0 stars out of 5 from me. If you choose to deal with him to do your work then I wish you good luck! I have kept a lookout on eBay for the frame since then so I guess he has not sold it there yet. If I see it for sale somewhere I will try and make a case that is is stolen merchandise.
Sorry this happened to you!
Quite unfortunate.
...and precisely why I won't ship a high value frame when we have Chris Kvale ten minutes from my house.
I have seen countless examples of his work over the years and all of them were top shelf.
Oldairhead, did you ever receive compensation from Brian Bayliss?
Why don't you try again and give him one last chance to get this taken care of?
Maybe a link to this thread would be helpful.
In general, these public calling outs make me squeamish, but perhaps some good can come from this one.
