Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures lie ahead.
My transition to retired life is being complicated a bit by some medical/dental issues related to my 2008 bout with throat cancer. The intense radiation treatments I had not only damaged my salivary glands leaving me with constant dry mouth and resulting susceptibility to tooth decay, they also affected the flow of blood through my jaw bones, raising the possibility of poor healing and infection after dental surgery (
osteoradionecrosis) . I have an upper wisdom tooth and a couple of lower teeth with enough decay that extraction is needed. To help prevent the complications, I have been undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments, spending 3 hours every weekday morning in a tank for 20 days prior to the surgery and followed by another 10 days after.
The good part is that the clear tank has a TV above it so I can watch the live Tour de France coverage each day while I'm in there.
