That's what panniers are for - stock up.

I would do it if I had a bike that took wide enough tires. It should be pretty empty, but not abandoned. You probably won't have any trouble at all, but, if you do, you'll flag the next person who drives by down, and it won't take an hour, probably, before someone does.

The danger, of course, is that you'll get hooked, and start climbing other mountains, too.
