Your ticking hits at the 2:00 position on the right crankarm. Mine hits at about the 11:00 position on the left. The ticking may not always be there or be audible but when it's there it's always at the same position.

Since I just replaced the chainring a month ago, that's probably not the problem on my bike. With just 2000 miles on your chainrings, I would be surprised if that was your problem.

Interesting idea about the slop in the chain causing it. Anything's possible.

I replace my chain connectors every time I get a new chain. I think the manufactor of every connector recommends this (?).

After reading the post above and then rm -rf post, I suspect your cause and mine are NOT the same.

I am quite confident it is coming from the RIGHT side of the bike.

I get the impression that yours is coming from the left? Which would match what rm -rf describes.
