After graduating High School, I lost about 140 pounds (the hard way) as I play a lot of basketball and started doing more and more cardio. Now, 8 years after High School, I'm currently about 255 (down from 280 2.5 months ago) and have slowly been adding biking to my workout regime. I started about 3 weeks ago doing short distances (5-9 miles a day) just to get acclimated. Then I did a 22 mile loop in the Tri-Cities area of Washington twice in consecutive weeks.

This week, i've stepped it up a little bit doing 12 miles on Monday, 9 miles on Wednesday, and 21 miles yesterday. This may not sound like a lot to some people but keep in mind, I also workout 6 days a week, running at least 4.5 miles a day. I'm trying to get down to a about 220 which is when I was in my "prime" form. I know some of you may not care but I just had to let out this excitement since my wife doesn't really care. I'd love to start commuting daily on a bike as well.
Your previous hobbies were too expensive, so you take up cycling...

Good luck with that

(my cycling habit has ended up costing me several thousand dollars more than I had ever intended to spend on it)
