I have friends that grew up in these neighborhoods, and when I first started talking to them about group rides and organized rides, they did not have a clue these things existed. I didn't know about club rides myself until after I graduated college. If there are few to no bike shops in an impoverished neighborhood, and local clubs aren't advertising, how are they supposed to know about them to begin with? The kid with the Pinarello will know because they're in an area where the club rides are advertised, while the Walmart bike kid will be tooling around the neighborhood running errands and playing around on their bike.
