I think he was talking about riffs more than chords. Specifically the case was the chorus of "The Old Man is Down the Road" is a rip off of Run Through the Jungle. Fogerty won.
It's tough though isn't it. You're writing a ballad in a major key, you get to the bridge, its so easy to throw a minor fall in there but if you do it sounds like every other rock ballad ever written.
