Not sure what the used bike market is like in "rural western wisconsin" but in Boston, I would probably be able to buy it for 225, replace the saddle then sell it for a similar amount. I would probably get flamed by the craigslist 'Re:' warriors though.
I have done that. Bought $50- $100 bikes that had $100 saddles. I sold the saddles on ebay though so didn't get a bunch of CL flack for it. I have gotten my share of CL flack on other occasions though. The usual, "hey, this guy bought my bike for $50 and now he wants $100. Off topic, sorry.
