Hey thanks, guys.
Bob, I think you misunderstood my question. Let me see if I can clarify: I love and own many antiques and collectible things. I enjoy looking at, as well as, gently using some items. Some things I own are too fragile to use, thus, I have them in cabinets or on shelves to be enjoyed and viewed. I consider myself rather book educated on the Bowden Spacelander, including the reproduction versions. I'm very aware of their rarity and pricing. I've seen an original sell as low as $1800, decent ones from $5000-$12000 and mint conditions ones from $15000-$22000. I own an original 1949 Schwinn Black Phantom in fair condition (minus tires, tubes and brake cable). I enjoy riding it gently from time to time, weather permitting.
My question is: Is the bike capable of being ridden carefully without breaking? I understand that a lot of Spacelanders broke from use, including the reproductions. What I don't know is, did they break from hard use or not. I want to know if one could gently ride it around a park from time to time or is it too fragile and should be admired in a recreation room? I guess, I should have addressed my question to just owners, my bad.
I suppose I'm flattered that you think I'm capable of spending $20000 on a bike to run it into the ground, however, I'm more capable with my pocketbook. Ah, the freedom with ones own spending. But thanks for attempting to answer my question.
Also, I appreciate the heads up on the eBay auction. It's tempting, but I'm looking for a model with more original features intact.
Thanks again!
