Don't know if it is better than the Nexus offerings, but for small wheel bikes, it's easier to get a useable gear range as 1st gear is 1:1 and the 7 remaining gears are overdrive... for anyone looking for the 8spd S/A hub, I have a new bike take off (20" 406 wheel complete) which would include shifter,cog, etc.. it is a freewheel, rim brake version .. pm if interested
