Around here, it seems like half of the older cyclists on fast group rides are doctors, lawyers, or executives. Adult road cyclists represent one of the most affluent demographics out there. Actually, doctors don't pull in the bucks like they used to (unless they are surgeons), sometimes I think they are poor guys in the group. Don't get me wrong, there are middle-class guys in the groups also, but you generally see less expensive gear under them. Golf is similar where peope love to throw $ at nice equipment. Again, lots of disposable income.
