You want to save lives? Demand that it become illegal for people to text & drive. If you have a cell phone in your hand or next to your head when behind the wheel - immediate $500 fine. You'll save alot more lives per year than any kind of TSA nonsense has.

I was only bothered once, at a seasonal Halloween store. They had a place for them behind the counter, so after a few seconds of consideration, I handed it over. Unless a store had such a way of keeping it safe, and could be held responsible, I'd tell them to piss off.
