Today (well, yesterday) I: decided that for my birthday, I wanted a healthy dose of pain, suffering and glory. Next week is the famous Seven Hells of San Francisco race. I decided to take Wolfpack Hustle on a pre-ride of the course. Gears were pretty much a necessity (unless you had a < 50gi setup laying around somewhere) but we did have two of our fixie regulars show up. They did a lot of walking but had a lot fun (their words!) nonetheless. Hats off to them for attempting it!
To give you an idea of the walls we faced, Twin Peaks was
by far the easiest climb of the night. It felt like a recovery spin.
Strava track.
Some of these beasts have
average grades in the 25% range. Trophies for all and even a couple KOMs. All in all, one of the best birthday presents I have ever given myself.
Edit, pics:
Impressive turnout given the route was pre-announced and everyone knew, more or less, what they were getting themselves into.
This is what we all looked like after the seventh Hell.
Hero's of the night, Cliff and Albert, walking up the final pitch (25%+) of 29th Street. They made it up half way, which, to be honest, I don't think I could have done in their shoes.
