Talk to any bike messenger, and you'll see that it's a dying industry. Especially in the traditional sense - most that I know supplement (or fully support themselves) with food delivery in addition/instead of to the typical business stuff.
The Fax Machine killed the Bike Messenger industry. It's been a slow death ever since it's invention.
As an old-school lawyer told me, "Yeah, I used to use bike messengers all the time when I needed to get docs to the courthouse or get something across town to be signed. Then I bought a fax machine and never called a bike messenger service again."
