It's not that hard. You should be able to get a Wipperman Connex or a SRAM powerlink from your local shop and either have them break your chain and install it or you can do it yourself if you have a chaintool.

When I lube my chain, I use my Connex link as a reference and keep putting one drop on each roller while pedalling backwards until I get back to the Connex link. I prefer this method to just spraying while running the pedals backwards because you don't waste lube, you don't get it all over your rear wheel and chainstays and you don't end up with lube on the outer plates where they can attract dust and road grit.
