Today I'm happy because last night I took apart my wife's Schwinn's headset and degreased and regreased the bearings. The stem needed a few good raps with a mallet to break it free (little rust down there, TWSS). But yeah, always wondered what was inside of that head tube. Now I know. And now the wife has a much safer/better bike. I can't believe I didn't look at it sooner. It wasn't tightened enough to begin with, so the bearings were visible even before I took anything apart. They were bone dry too, and dirty. Luckily those old Schwinn bearings are built to last.
