Realized that the M1/+ button is unfortunately essential to switch to different view modes while riding. Contacted Cateye and I'm returning the v3 for replacement under warranty, should go smoothly and end up with having a brand new v3 for $100 plus the cost of shipping it to them. Fair deal I think.
