Pressed through a wall today!
I've been MTB'ing it for two months now. I had to take it up since an ankle injury (one of many) finally put my running days to an end, and I really need to get back in shape. Anyway, I saw in the first month and a half tremendous progress. However, it seems that in the last two weeks my riding had been struggling. The climbs were seeming tougher, my legs ached more and my lungs were burning. I know I was improving (looking back), but I just couldn't notice at much. In fact, I was just naturally pushing myself to new limits. I couldn't think of it as anything other than a wall. Well, I teach people to press through those psychological walls when learning languages, so I applied my own teaching to my mountain biking and discovered today that my pressing through had payed off. The ride was one of my fastest and strongest 10 miles yet. In fact, I kept having to upshift! The climbs seemed easier, my lungs weren't burning, my legs kept pumping and I'm finding the technical stuff to be way easier. It looks like I made it through my first wall. Of course there will be others, but I know now that I can just keep pressing on and I can make it through to even higher levels of performance!
