I agree that any attempts at education are futile at best and that it is best to ignore and do my best to stay out of the way of belligerent and dangerous motorists. I also agree that a well timed honk from a motorist behind me can be unsettling. I recently started riding with a helmet/hat mounted rearview mirror and found that being honked at is much less unsettling because I already know they are there and what they are doing. I have also found that knowing what is behind me has helped me to avoid many dangerous situations and helped me to do a better job of sharing the road myself.
