Can you talk anyone - friend, relative, wife - into going hiking near the end of your ride? I managed to do a ride that was too long for an out-and-back for me that way. "Hey, I'd really like to do X. Wouldn't you like to go hiking in the Teanaway? We'll take my car, you can drop me off, go have a great day, and pick me up in the evening. I'll treat you to Indian food at your favorite restaurant when we get back to town." She said yes, and she said it was because other people have done similar favors for her. I've also managed to do some cool backpacking trips by getting friends to join me for the first or last leg of the hike, and done the two car thing.
