I think the answer to your question is No. The material in the area is likely thick and drilling would be difficult plus you need to also make the well for the housing to rest in. Then there is the matter of the cable routing which would be designed to only go one way and forcing into a different direction is likely to cause lots of binding.

This is the main reason I always buy (well besides being a hoarder like most C&Vers) the early Campi aero/nonaero style levers when I see nice ones. I like the feeel and depending on the build I can use them either way.
