Prevention and damage mitigation are two different things.

A chain watcher will reduce the likelihood, but is not 100% reliable. A chain stay protector of some kind is for when things happen despite having the chain watcher. It's like breakaway replaceable gear hangers. Good attention to limit screw settings will keep the RD out of the wheel, but the breakaway hanger will save your frame if there's a lapse.

Yeah I see your point. Fits in well with my situation. It was because of my FD limit screw being off. Second time happening. Now I've learned to check all the time before I head out and prior to getting on
