The local tri club uses KK Road Machines and tests with the defined 40 minute warm up (burn out), then the 20 minute test, convert speed over the 20 min to wattage, then 85% for 20 min FTP (it may be 80%, can't remember). LC, are you saying this is a meaningless or inaccurate test?
No, that is not a gym bike. That is a pretty consistent trainer. The number is 95% though. 20 minute threshold times 0.95 gives you your FTP. Not as accurate as a power meter obviously but it will get you pretty close.
