This is a really easy answer then. Ride out the rest of the season on the loaner system they have. Use that time to figure out if you like it. Four sessions is quite bit of time. Then over the winter work on your fitness(my guess is you will have to work on your leg speed, active recovery, and cardio but that may not be the case). And save up some more money for a nicer bike, if you decide that it is something you really want to get into. Bike racing is an expensive hobby, but track racing is much much cheaper than road or mountain. A grand will get you a bike that will last you for many seasons.
