Another" help ID a bike" thread

I picked up this bike for $50 to use as a winter and rainy day commuter. I couldn't tell what it was except that it was 6 speed, light for it's vintage and had a really bad rattle can paint job.

After disassembly I found the following components
Sakae Randnner Road Champion bars.
Stem is not labeled but made in Japan
Tange Fork
Shimano Altus Derailers and downtube shifter
Sugino Crank
Weinmann 605 Brake calibers and Wienmann levers
Sugino SP-H 26.4 Seatpost
Weinman 27 X 1 1/4" Rims
Shimano rear hub Schwinn approved Deluxe front hub

Serial Number on left dropout 2F01576
Missing head badge, but rivet holes are consistant with a Japan made Schwinn (2 horizontal holes)
Original color appears to be champange. Fork is chrome at the ends and crown of fork.
There are no water bottle braze ons and the rear brake runs underneath the top tube.
The top tube is smaller than the Front and Seat tubes.
Also it appears to be fillet brazed frame.

From what I found it appears to be a 1982 Japanese Schwinn Voyageur 11.8, but the color matches an 83 and the components are a mix between them.
according to http://sandro.knot.org/blog/wp-conte...comparison.pdf
and some of the components are similar to the super sport, but the catalog page I found only lists the triple's components

Here is the work in progress (sorry about the flash)

Close up at the top tube seat seat stay merger

Do you think this could be a limited edition of left over parts? A bastardization at the LBS? or am I on the wrong track altogether?
This has been eating me up trying to figure it out and any help would be appreciatted.

Thanks

Tim
