I think part of the reason for the ass-slap signal down here is not just to alert the person behind you, but also to wake up zoning pedestrians. We have TONS of elderly pedestrians walking around in a fog, or driving golf carts at 2mph. A long line of cyclists all slapping their ass will wake up an 80 yr old grandma walking a poodle on a leash. A silent signal might not. Although I have to wonder what those little old ladies think when we pass them
