very good point about the sealed bearings, i didn't even think about that and i would definitely want a low maintenance setup. i did read somewhere that the 7710 were sealed though, but i have no idea how to look and tell (http://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont...F.-type-..html)

aero really isn't all that big of a deal, but i love the look of aero spokes, bladed or ovalized, and those lasers don't look round. are they bladed? (http://www.sapim.be/spokes/butted/laser)

finally, what would be the consequence of lacing 28H 2x?

thanks again!
According to the product diagram, they are loose ball bearings:

The lasers aren't bladed, but they are highly butted. They are also much cheaper. CX-Rays run about 3 bucks a pop. Lasers run about a dollar. They are both fantastic spokes. If money isn't a problem, get what you want, but understand you wouldn't get any benefits from them.

The weight difference between 28h and 32h, is next to nothing. The structural benefits are fantastic though, you're spreading the tension out between more spokes, and will make for a much stronger wheelset.

Lacing wise, 3x is absolutely bomb proof. 2 cross lacing doesn't seem to want to stay true and tensioned.
