Just to paraphrase That Other Thread, it was the traces of road salt ("The chain is less than 2 years old") that really did the damage when in solution with the Simple Green/green mineral spirits...

But yeah, real mineral spirits are the way to go. I haven't had any cracks in my SRAM chains yet!
