I would submit that in spite of your cause being a good one, that it is bad form to join a forum simply to post a thread for donations to an individual that we didn't know (on a forum level) and whom was not a member. It is a bit tacky IMO, not that you were asking. I think your heart and thoughts are in the right place, but it doesn't change the impropriety of it.
