Interesting. Most chainstay failures I've seen were from from chain suck, wheel rub, or manufacturing issues. If you didn't have the first two...

The oversize bearing story is interesting. A dealer told me that said company made the frames wrong for a bit, the bearing seats in the BB were too wide by a smidgen. Instead of replacing all the frames they sent out oversize bearings to the dealers. They corrected the bearing seat for later frames.
