Man... I probably have to stop and block the sidewalk 25% of the time to make a turn onto another street in general, but 100% of the time coming out of my street onto the main road as I can't see what's coming without being right out at the intersection... Cars stopping and blocking the sidewalk seem quite common to me. The difference here was that you were going faster than a pedestrian who could have easily stopped but you couldn't. Now legally he should have stopped at the stop sign but lots of people do that and then still stop blocking the sidewalk before proceeding through, depending on a lot of different conditions... Bottom line to me and it seems a lot of others is that when you are using a sidewalk you need to use it like a pedestrian and not like a bicyclist...
