Obligatory recumbent post. Hand problems is why I switched. Like you, I'd tried everything to get comfortable on my upright bike. Finally, when my hands hurt for a whole week following a bike tour, I'd had enough. The choice was either find a fix or quit cycling. A recumbent solved the problem immediately and permanently. Only later did I discover that some of them were insanely fast, too.
