Take a look at the Masi/Haro dynamic. Masi is strictly road/cx, Haro takes care of the bmx, mtb, cruiser/comfort hybrid markets. Very little overlap.
But for some reason, DB has been morphing more into a direct competitor for Raleigh sales than complimentary...
Perhaps, they might be thinking of building it up, just for the purpose of selling the brand. I mean, when Raleigh has every type of bike imaginable, why does it need a brand with a mediocre history?
While Diamondback at one time was known for both its Mountain and BMX bikes, I don't think the Diamondback brand carries as much weight as it once did. When MTN biking enthusiasts think of DH racing or serious single tracking, I wouldn't think that the name or brand ,"Diamondback" , enters into the conversation that much, if at all.
I'm really curious now, as to how all of this is going to really play out...
