Data like this, and the stuff I stated earlier, provide local snapshots. The big problem I see with national surveys like this one is that local agencies rely on them for designing local facilities at locales that are different, like Seattle, or in my case Orange County CA. Even here locally, the routes I travel most are predominantly road bikes. Were I to commute north to Santa Ana, I would be the lone roadie in a sea of salmon on full suspension Wally's.
