I've been running double straps on my GR-9 pedals for a while. It worked well enough, but since there's no slot for the front strap to slide through they'd periodically flop around loose. So, I go to the hardware store and pick up some stainless bolts and nylock nuts. Come home, find out the bolts are too long. Like, way too long. Dremel can't get through the shank of the bolts. Bolt keeps popping out of the clamp as I'm going at it with a hacksaw. Annnd I screwed up one of the threads in the process.
In the end, a 10 minute job ended up taking me an hour. But hey, now I've got functional double straps and I finally found a legitimate use for my tap and die set!
TIL:
When you cut threads using a die, nylock nuts turn into regular nuts. And I am nuts.
