Nice find! Good luck salvaging the finish. You might also want to try graffiti remover, takes off the spray paint and retain the old layer of paint.
I picked up a 91 Trek 8000 recently off CL, essentially the same frame, different components. It's a very light frame and uniquely constructed. Too bad it is too big for me.
You don't see these early aluminum Treks too often here. Be sure to post your finished Trek in our Vintage mountain bikes thread!

BTW, if you don't have a use for that rigid Trek fork, PM me. I have an old Trek 930 steel mtb about the same size that's missing its steel fork.
