this doesn't really make a lot of sense, at least superficially. you can't be running -500kcal/day forever. so, you must have lost a lot of weight or your body must be using 500kcal less per day because you're in better shape.
take someone like me ... i weigh 75kg or so (165#) before I started commuting ... i can probably stand to build a little muscle and lose maybe 2-3kg off the stomach. i do a 25km RT commute most days, which should be roughly 500kcal. if i don't eat more, i'll start losing weight (3500kcal=1# or 8000kcal/1kg). so, i should lose around 1#/week or so. after a few months, i'll have to start eating more.
it's interesting to think about where those extra 500kcal will come from. i try to be as green as is reasonable, so i'm just curious.
i think i eat some form of meat at least 5 days/week, so maybe i should reduce that and eat more beans like I used to, not just to save money (beef is crazy expensive) but to think about how it affects my surroundings.
