assuming roughly 3500kcal/#, it's around 87500 kcal. it seems that riding roughly 12mi/h results in roughly 10kcal/min energy consumption so roughly 8750 min/60min*12miles/h = roughly 1750 miles or so.

i would assume that the average American has roughly a 40mi RT commute x 3 days/week = roughly 3 months of commuting 3 days per week
