All 4 of our TREK bikes came with the shock absorbing seat posts. I replaced mine with solid posts. Kept the shock absorbing seat posts on the wife's two bikes for her comfort. But. I replace hers about every two years. They use a slotted (key way) nylon washer to guide the post in its travel. When that washer wears the nose of the seat will begin to swing from side to side while she pedals. Rather annoying. The posts are not expensive so replacing them is no big deal. But then we average a bit over 2,000 miles a year on the bikes.
I don't like the suspension post myself, wastes energy that could be going into the pedals as do the shocks and forks on hybrids/mountain bikes. My wife, as your does, like hers on her Trek 7300 hybrid. Only one I have thought about is the Zertz insert post that Specialized offers. Actually don't need it, my carbon post is fine for me. I do want to swap her sprung Bontrager seat with a Brooks B-17 that she had used before, and likes a lot.
