Bikes: Trek 7300 Trek Madone 4.5 Surly Cross Check

Slip: I started by walking as well. I got into cycling as a transitional step to running. Now that I'm hooked, I couldn't care less about running. My only advice is to be consistent. Riding 20 minutes/day 3 times a week is better than an hour once a week as an example.
